DEI Commission to Draft Response to Hoyt Letter
Concord's DEI Commission chose a private letter over a public statement in response to consultant Dr. Carlos Hoyt.
Other Committee · Meeting of August 27, 2026
Concord's DEI Commission chose a private letter over a public statement in response to consultant Dr. Carlos Hoyt. Chair Andrea Fonserrava will draft a direct acknowledgment to Hoyt after his written concerns about the town's Bias and Hate Incident Reporting Work Group went unanswered for months.
Commissioner Rose Kratzli described the panel's intended role as "the caring family member" that sets the stage for dialogue without initiating it. Commissioners also reported nine of 11 Black Heritage Trail markers have cleared town review, with a Select Board vote set for August 31 and an installation celebration eyed for mid-October around the 185th anniversary of Frederick Douglass's visit to Concord. The commission's community survey closed at 505 responses, down from roughly 624 last cycle, and a local group, CCAA, was previously awarded $20,000 from the Combined Jewish Philanthropies for a town-supported Hanukkah menorah project.
