CONCORD — The Concord Historic Districts Commission approved a Black Heritage Trail marker for the Wright Tavern lawn on a 4-1 vote, over commissioner Walter Clay's objection that the site is a National Historic Landmark. Chair Kate Scharner led the panel through four new applications, approving roof and vent repairs at 23 Lexington Road, a bow window replacement at 42 Monument Street, and a paint color change at 140 Monument Street, all unanimously. At 33 Main Street, commissioners brokered a compromise letting Spalding Management use asphalt shingles on a visible roof section in a color distinct from neighboring roofs, after member Bill Hewitt argued to preserve "this sort of quirky little thing." Clay said putting a sign on "a National Register, National Historic Landmark place" was a poor compromise.
The commission also agreed to seek a correction from the Concord Bridge over factual errors in a resident's letter about the trail markers.
