CONCORD — The Concord Historic Districts Commission voted to continue review of Black Heritage Trail marker signage after more than an hour of public comment over sign width. Mimi Graney, presenting for the project's advisory team, told commissioners the markers must be fabricated by June 30 under a Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism grant deadline. Commissioners including Bill Hewitt and Jeff Young said the proposed 18-by-60-inch signs were too large for Monument Square, while a public speaker identified as Dr.
Williams said "we're haggling over two inches here." The commission voted 5-0 to continue the hearing to July 8, with a site visit planned that morning using new proportionally scaled mock-ups. In the same session, the commission unanimously approved four smaller applications, including a bicycle repair station behind the Concord Visitor Center and window and door changes at three private homes.
