Other Committee · Meeting of July 29, 2026

CONCORD — The Concord Historic Districts Commission approved new signage for two properties and continued a Frederick Douglass memorial marker amid siting disputes. Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a rebranded flat sign and blade sign for Concord Lamp and Shade at 21 Walden Street, presented by new owner Christopher "Chip" Hewitt, and 5-0 to approve window replacements at 36 Lowell Road. The commission continued a Black Heritage Trail marker proposed for 12 Monument Square after Commissioner Tim Whitney said, "I think it's a problem if the sign ends up with its rear side facing Monument Square." Concord Museum Facilities Director Shane Parsons won approval to replace deteriorating wood signs with aluminum ones, saying the aluminum option costs about $3,500 versus roughly $14,000 for PVC, calling the gap "huge." The commission also voted 5-0 to confirm siting locations for six Black Heritage Trail markers, pending property-owner sign-off.
