CONCORD — The Concord Historical Commission unanimously recommended Ken Risley, a Middlesex School history teacher, for an associate seat and agreed to seek $50,000 in fiscal 2028 funding for a townwide historic interpretive plan. Chair Doug Ellis said the Select Board endorsed the commission's updated historic preservation plan at its October 5 meeting, including interpretive-plan language drafted by member Rob Monroe, who cautioned the effort "is not a direct response to kind of concerns ... from" the recent Black Heritage Trail marker debate. Member Lauren Meyer relayed feedback from former National Park Service reviewer Betsy Iglehart that a related draft thematic study was "too much scope for the money we have available" and should be narrowed.

The commission also approved minutes from its August 13 and September 1 meetings and set plans for a November 1 ceremony dedicating new headstones for five previously unmarked Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War soldiers' graves at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
