Historical Commission approves one demolition, delays second pending year-long review.

CONCORD — The Concord Historical Commission voted on two demolition applications at a virtual hearing on April 9. Chair Douglas J. Ellis and members Melissa Saalfield, Marybeth Kelly, and Lauren Meier unanimously cleared 13 Chestnut Street for demolition, conditioned on photographic documentation, finding the 1950 house not preferably preserved despite its Air-Conditioned Homes lineage.
On 1606 Main Street, a 1950s Cape in the Westvale neighborhood, the Commission voted unanimously to declare the structure preferably preserved and imposed a one-year demolition delay, citing the property's contribution to West Concord's worker-housing character and its identification as a priority area in the draft Historic Preservation Plan. Neighbors Alan Bogosian and Gib Metcalf urged protection of the modest houses defining West Concord's historic character.
