Commission finds 74 Commonwealth Avenue not preferably preserved; delays 1687-1689 Main Street demolition one year

Concord Historical Commission clears demolition of 74 Commonwealth Avenue auto garage, approves New England Guitar Museum plan. Chair Douglas J. Ellis and members voted 4-0 to find the property not preferably preserved, contingent on photographic and historical documentation, after hearing 41 letters of public support for the mixed-use proposal.
In a contrasting decision on the same evening, the Commission voted 4-0 to impose a one-year demolition delay on 1687-1689 Main Street, finding the two-family structure preferably preserved for its significance as Damon Mill worker housing. Members approved prior meeting minutes and scheduled a January 30 work session to roll out the 2025 Concord Historic Preservation Plan.
