Concord Schedules Forums On New Bias, Hate Reporting System
CONCORD — The town has scheduled two public forums in September to explain a planned system for residents to report bias and hate incidents, one of several civic and preservation-funding announcements to come out of Town Hall this week.
TOWN HALL
Town officials announced two identical public forums, on Friday, Sept. 4, and Tuesday, Sept. 8, to walk residents through a planned town system for reporting bias and hate incidents and how it would be used. No location or time has been posted yet.
Separately, the Community Preservation Committee opened its annual funding window this week. Applications for CPA money supporting historic preservation, open space, recreation and community housing projects are due Friday, Sept. 18, at noon.
The town's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission is also planning a "Community Coffee" conversation titled "A Place at the Table Starts with a Place to Live," examining how access to affordable housing shapes inclusion in Concord. The session will feature Liz Rust, described by the town as a local housing expert. Separately, the state Department of Public Health has elevated Concord's West Nile virus risk to moderate after positive mosquito samples turned up in neighboring towns; residents are advised to use repellent and take extra care at dusk and dawn.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Concord Free Public Library has booked historian Bettina A. Norton for a talk on her new book, "Pastellist during the American Revolution: Benjamin Blyth," set for Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6 to 7 p.m.
