Concord Schedules Sept. 9 Forum On MCI-Concord Master Plan
Concord will hold a public forum on the MCI-Concord master plan and zoning update on Sept. 9, when officials plan to present a framework plan for the town's most closely watched redevelopment site, the former state prison property.
TOWN HALL
The Framework Plan Presentation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 9, according to the town's News Flash feed, which described it as "the latest developments for MCI-Concord." The session is meant to give residents an update on planning and zoning work tied to the property's future use.
Separately, the town has posted a request for proposals connected to the Concord Municipal Light Plant, according to a legal notice dated Aug. 28 and flagged to Jeff Cosgrove at Town Hall. The notice did not include further project detail.
The town's Health Division also issued an advisory on cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora. Health officials said Massachusetts case counts remain typical for this time of year, but the CDC has flagged a rise in cases in multiple states and is urging awareness. It comes as the town continues to monitor its elevated West Nile virus risk level.
Construction continues at the Rideout Park courts at 61 Laws Brook Road in West Concord, part of a project that began Aug. 24.
SCHOOLS
Concord-Carlisle Regional School District students return for the first day of the 2026-2027 school year on Aug. 31. The district has posted bus routes and the academic calendar for the new year on its website, and released its "CCHS Year in Review," a quality report covering the 2024-2025 school year at Concord-Carlisle High School.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Concord Free Public Library is showing "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson" on the first floor of the Main Library through Sept. 10. The exhibition features a rare selection of works by Emerson, the son of Ralph Waldo Emerson, including paintings, sketchbooks and his palette from the library's William Munroe Special Collections, along with several pieces on loan from private collections that have not been shown publicly before.
