Working Group Launches School Climate and Culture Initiative
School Committee (CSC_CCRSC) · Meeting of July 9, 2026
CONCORD — The Concord-Carlisle School Committee's Climate and Culture Working Group convened on July 9 to develop a framework for measuring school climate ahead of the coming year. Chair Brian Waterson and members Michelle MacDougall, Sandeep Pisharody, and Michael Williams met with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurie Hunter and Andrew Nyamekye, Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, to discuss data sources including the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Panorama assessments, and MCAS results.
The group emphasized student voice in defining metrics and explored additional feedback mechanisms including affinity group advisors, METCO families, and community coffees. Dr. Hunter said the district has been working to shift the narrative around bias and hate incidents from negative reporting to an affirmative focus on prevention and community empowerment mechanisms.
