Concord Recreation Commission elects new chair, backs two letters on MCI gym and Alcott playground. Matt was elected unanimously to succeed the outgoing chair after two and a half years, with a vice chair role tabled for later. Select Board liaison Paul Bohm told the commission the MCI-Concord redevelopment's 64,000-square-foot gymnasium building is slated for private development, saying it "would be very, very valuable" for indoor recreation, ahead of an October 6 zoning session.
The commission also backed a letter supporting Concord Public Schools' bid for Community Preservation Committee funding to rebuild the Alcott Elementary playground. Staff reported the Ride Out Park court resurfacing project came in at $1,039,000, with concrete pours set for September 29 and October 1, and the commission voted to dissolve its oversight subcommittee. Warner's Pond Management Committee representative Phil Brewer told the commission, "We have a five-year mandate to try to make sure that Warner's Pond continues to exist."
