Pond Panel Sets Water Access as Top Priority

Concord's Warner's Pond Management Committee names water access its top recreational goal and confirms a consultant RFP ships September 23, closing October 21. Staff said the review panel will include roughly four people, with an anticipated October 28 contract award and November 4 start. Committee member Dan outlined eight recreational-use categories, from water sight lines to a Maynard-style kayak rental program that earned that town about $10,000 last year.
Members agreed to send two members to Monday's Recreation Commission meeting seeking a future agenda slot on Giroux Park water access. In public comment, resident Denise Gilbert said the panel was "putting the cart before the horse" by discussing recreation before the pond's water quality; a member replied the committee has spent "scores of hours" on ecology and this was its first recreation discussion. The vacant committee seat remains unfilled, with a recommendation not reaching the Natural Resources Commission until its October 7 meeting.
