Concord Sets September Forums On Bias, Hate Incident Reporting

CONCORD — Town officials have scheduled two public forums next month to introduce a planned system for reporting bias and hate incidents, one of several civic and funding announcements the town posted this week.

TOWN HALL

The town will hold public forums on Friday, Sept. 4, and Tuesday, Sept. 8, to walk residents through a planned system for reporting bias and hate incidents and how it would be used. Details on times and locations were not yet posted.

Separately, the town rolled out a new FY26 Grants Dashboard intended to show residents how Concord is using grant funding to support town programs. The Community Preservation Committee also opened its annual funding window; applications for historic preservation, open space, recreation, and community housing projects are due Friday, Sept. 18, at noon. The town's Natural Resources Commission is accepting letters of interest for a vacancy on the Warner's Pond Management Committee, which works on the pond's ecological health and recreational use, through Friday, Aug. 21. And the town's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee hosted a Community Coffee session on how access to affordable housing shapes inclusion in Concord, featuring local housing expert Liz Rust. The health department also flagged a CDC advisory on cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness spread by a microscopic parasite, noting Massachusetts case counts remain typical for this time of year even as cases rise in multiple states.

SCHOOLS

The Concord-Carlisle Regional School District's School Committee holds a joint meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. Staff professional development days follow Aug. 27 and 28, ahead of the first day of school Aug. 31. The district also highlighted its newly released 2024-2025 Quality Report covering Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle High School.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Concord Free Public Library has opened an exhibition on the first floor of its Main Library building, "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson," running through Sept. 10. The show features a rare selection of works by Emerson, son of Ralph Waldo Emerson, including pieces on loan from private collections shown publicly for the first time, alongside paintings, sketchbooks, and his palette from the library's William Munroe Special Collections.
