Concord Sets Sept. 9 Meeting On MCI-Concord Master Plan

CONCORD — Concord planning officials have set a Framework Plan Presentation for Sept. 9 at 6 p.m., inviting residents to weigh in on the master plan and zoning update guiding redevelopment of the former MCI-Concord prison property, according to the town's News Flash service.

TOWN HALL The town's most consequential announcement this week centers on the MCI-Concord site: officials are asking residents to attend the September session to review the latest framework for the property's future use and zoning. Details on the presentation, including a Zoom option, are expected to follow closer to the date.

Separately, Concord's Community Preservation Committee has opened its funding window for the next round of Community Preservation Act dollars, which support historic preservation, open space, recreation and community housing projects. Applications are due Friday, Sept. 18, at noon.

The town's road contractor is continuing work on Stow Street at the Hunt Recreation entrance, Bedford Street and Lowell Road from Aug. 17 through Aug. 21, weather permitting, an extension of the multi-week paving project already underway. The Concord Health Department also announced it is partnering with the Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative on an interactive talk about staying safe from ticks and mosquitoes, featuring live insects and expert guidance.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Concord Free Public Library is hosting "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson" on the first floor of the Main Library through Sept. 10. The exhibition features a rare selection of works by Emerson, son of Ralph Waldo Emerson, including pieces on loan from private collections shown publicly for the first time, alongside paintings, sketchbooks and his palette from the library's William Munroe Special Collections.
