UK Firm L&G Buys Baker Avenue Site for Concord Development
CONCORD — A United Kingdom-based asset management firm has purchased a Baker Avenue property in Concord for what would be its first ground-up development in the United States, Boston Agent Magazine reported Wednesday.
TOWN HALL
Town officials are inviting residents to weigh in on a planned system for reporting bias and hate incidents, with public forums scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, and Tuesday, Sept. 8. The sessions will lay out how the town intends to track and respond to such reports.
The Community Preservation Committee opened its funding window this week. Applications for historic preservation, open space, recreation and community housing projects are due Friday, Sept. 18, by noon.
The town's Natural Resources Commission is also seeking a volunteer for the Warner's Pond Management Committee to help improve the pond's ecological health and recreational capacity.
Separately, the Board of Health is flagging a national uptick in cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite. Massachusetts case counts remain typical for this time of year, but the CDC has urged awareness given rising cases in multiple states.
SCHOOLS
Concord-Carlisle staff have two professional development days, Aug. 27 and 28, as the district prepares to welcome students back for the new school year.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Concord Free Public Library's Main Library is hosting "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson" through Sept. 10, an exhibition of rarely seen works by Ralph Waldo Emerson's son, including pieces on loan from private collections for the first time, alongside paintings, sketchbooks and his palette held in the library's William Munroe Special Collections.
The town's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission will host a Community Coffee on housing access, featuring local housing expert Liz Rust discussing how affordable housing shapes inclusion in Concord.
