Car, MBTA Train Collide in Concord, Injuring One

DATELINE — CONCORD

A car collided with an MBTA Commuter Rail train near the Sudbury Road and Thoreau Street crossing Monday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital and shutting down roads in the area for hours, according to multiple news outlets. The Community Preservation Committee also opened its fall application window for CPA funding Monday, and the town's Natural Resources Commission is looking for a volunteer to fill a seat on the Warner's Pond Management Committee.

TOWN HALL

The Community Preservation Committee is accepting applications for Community Preservation Act funds supporting historic preservation, open space, recreation and community housing. Applications are due Friday, Sept. 18, at noon.

The Natural Resources Commission is seeking letters of interest to fill a vacancy on the Warner's Pond Management Committee, a group focused on the pond's ecological health and recreational use. Interested residents have until Aug. 21 to apply.

The Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative and the Concord Health Department are planning an interactive talk on tick and mosquito safety, featuring live bugs and expert insights, as part of the town's ongoing summer health outreach.

The Concord Free Public Library's Main Library is hosting "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson" through Sept. 10. The exhibition features a rare selection of works by Edward Waldo Emerson, son of Ralph Waldo Emerson, including pieces on loan from private collections shown publicly for the first time, alongside paintings, sketchbooks and his palette from the library's William Munroe Special Collections.
