Concord Launches Week of Road Work on Six Streets, Closes Key Sudbury-Thoreau Intersection

Road work is intensifying across Concord this week, with crews now active on a half-dozen streets and a new intersection closure adding a detour for drivers near the town center.

TOWN HALL

The town's latest road work update, posted June 26, lists active construction on Thoreau Court, Thoreau Street, Sudbury Road, Everett Street, Stow Street, and Devens Street through July 3. Separately, the town flagged that work on the Sudbury Road and Thoreau Street intersection began Thursday, June 25, with a detour plan in effect — the most disruptive single location in this week's slate given the intersection's central role in town traffic flow.

Residents are also reminded that a Level 1 Water Restriction remains in effect, limiting lawn watering to one day per week.

On the personnel front, Town Manager Kerry Lafleur appointed Aaron Miklosko as Interim Director of Concord Public Works following the retirement of Alan Cathcart on June 19. That transition is now in effect as the department manages this summer's heavy construction schedule.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Concord Free Public Library is accepting applications for its 2027 Writer-in-Residence Program, with a deadline of July 15. The residency runs January through June 2027 and is designed to continue Concord's literary heritage by supporting diverse voices and literary arts programming. All library branches will be closed July 3–4 for Independence Day.
