Concord-Carlisle schools raised pink shirts for "Kicks for Cancer" this week, as Concord's Recreation Commission reported progress on two town facility projects and weighed advocating for a gymnasium at the future MCI Concord site.

CONCORD -- The Recreation Commission, meeting Sept. 21, said two long-running capital projects are "making huge progress": a court resurfacing project at Rideout Park and the Maisie O'Donnell dry-dive training facility project tied to the Beede Swim & Fitness Center. Commission members also discussed the new attendant booth at the White Pond swim and boat-launch area: a concrete pad was poured over the summer and the booth relocated onto it, part of an effort to better manage unauthorized boat-launch parking; full relocation of operations to the top of the access drive is planned for next year. Separately, the commission discussed sending a letter in support of preserving space for a gymnasium or other indoor recreation use in the roughly 64,000-square-foot building planned for the center of the MCI Concord master-planning site, the rest of which is slated for commercial development.

COMMUNITY -- Concord-Carlisle schools held their "Kicks for Cancer" pink day fundraiser Friday. The Concord Carlisle Foundation delivered 160 official Kicks shirts to the schools for the event, according to Superintendent Dr. Hunter's update to the School Committee.
