ZBA approves 150-foot Walden Street cell tower

Concord's Zoning Board of Appeals approved a 150-foot wireless tower and signaled it will grant a long-contested ADU variance under a new state law. The board voted 4-0 to permit Wireless Edge Towers III LLC to build a monopole at 755 Walden Street, where Verizon and AT&T are already lined up to co-locate; resident Gail Heyer pressed the board that RF monitoring "is not optional," but town counsel said an FCC exclusion applies. On a second case, at 262 Virginia Road, attorney Dylan O'Sullivan cited a $233,000, 36 percent cost premium to justify a frontage-setback variance for an 899-square-foot ADU; Chair Thierry Kilmermans said he "almost get[s] offended" by the basement argument, since none of the board's other approved ADUs has one.
The board continued that hearing to October 8 for a formal decision after finding a new state "practical difficulty" standard leaves little room to deny the request.
