Concord committees approve playground design, budget transfers, and anti-hate initiative.

Concord and Concord-Carlisle committees approve playground expansion and budget alignment. The Concord School Committee unanimously approved Thoreau Playground Phase 2, a nature-inspired expansion featuring accessible play spaces, native gardens, and boardwalks designed for diverse mobility needs. The joint Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee voted unanimously to approve FY26 Q2 budget transfers totaling $1.6 million from the $41.6 million adjusted budget.
Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter announced the district has launched an anti-hate series in partnership with local organizations, beginning with a Facing History program and continuing with sessions by Carlos Hoyt and Robin Oaks on LGBTQ+ inclusion; a working group reported that of 33 hate incidents filed countywide in 2025, 14 originated in Concord and 8 were school-based. Hunter reported most district strategic goals achieved green status, including improvements in professional development, literacy and curriculum expansion, and a 2.5 percent increase in diverse hiring.
