CONCORD — Light Board endorses solar rooftop policy for Town Meeting consideration. The three-member board voted unanimously to support Article 30, a citizen petition requiring rooftop solar on new public buildings with a minimum capacity of 7.5 kilowatts and estimated payback period of six to eight years. Director Jason Bulger reported steady progress on Time-of-Day rate transitions, which will conclude by May 10th, and pursuit of a one point four million dollar Massachusetts Clean Energy Center grant for middle school solar and battery storage.
The Light Plant is also expanding the Walden Street landfill solar installation from 1.5 megawatts to 4 megawatts with a five megawatt, 20-megawatt-hour battery system targeted for 2026 commercial operation.
