Concord Adopts New Climate and Culture Framework
School Committee 2026-09-23 Part 2 · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Concord School Committee adopts a Climate and Culture Framework and opens talks on a 20-year rooftop solar deal. The committee, meeting jointly with the Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee, voted unanimously to close out fiscal 2026 budget transfers after the regional district's $40,384,952 general fund closed with just $706 unspent and Concord Public Schools closed with $579 unspent. Members also approved a scaled-back Grade 8 trip to Washington, D.C., three nights instead of four, at $1,649 per student.
During public comment, parent and Anthropic employee Brittany Horton asked the committee to require an "allow list" and family opt-in for AI tools on student devices, while longtime observer Robert Graham said the district should consistently use the school's full name, the Ellen Garrison Building. The committee opened, but did not vote on, a proposed 20-year rooftop solar lease with the Concord Municipal Light Plant and Select Board, citing open legal questions about the district's authority to sign it.
